About Rateboard

Rateboard is a free reference site for everyday money numbers: mortgage rate averages, gasoline prices, savings and CD averages, credit card APRs, and currency reference rates. Next to each number is a calculator that uses it, plus plain-English guides that explain what the numbers mean. Rateboard is not a lender, bank, broker, or financial adviser. No account is needed, and the calculators run in your browser.

Who runs Rateboard

Rateboard is run by an independent, hardworking American publisher who builds free, plain-English rate tools. Rateboard Editors write and review the guides, choose the data sources, and maintain the calculators. Rateboard is not affiliated with Freddie Mac, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, AAA, the FDIC, the Federal Reserve, or any lender or bank whose data or name appears on the site.

Where our numbers come from

Every figure on Rateboard is labeled with the date of the survey or publication it came from (its "as of" date). We do not invent a "today" rate. If a source has not published a new figure, the previous one stays up with its original date.

How updates happen

Rates are reviewed and updated manually. Each figure shows its own as-of date; currency rates update automatically from the European Central Bank via Frankfurter.

The only figures fetched live are currency reference rates on the converter. If the live request fails, the converter should say so clearly instead of showing stored rates.

How to use Rateboard figures

  • National averages describe typical borrowers or typical stations. Your own quote, pump price, or bank rate will differ.
  • Currency rates are mid-market reference rates. Banks, card issuers, airports, and exchange services add a spread or fees.
  • Calculators are estimates. They do not see your credit report, county tax rate, insurance quote, or W-4.
  • Examples in our guides use illustrative numbers and are labeled that way. They are not current rates or offers.

Rateboard is educational and is not financial, tax, or legal advice. Confirm any figure with a lender, bank, employer, or tax professional before you act on it.

How Rateboard is funded

Rateboard is free to use. It is supported by display advertising (Google AdSense) and, in a small number of clearly labeled places, affiliate links. Advertisers do not choose or edit our averages, guides, or calculator results. Ads are labeled "Advertisement" or "Sponsored." See our Affiliate Disclosure, Editorial Policy, and Privacy Policy for details.
